Cool Resource Finder

by hellozyemlya

Cool Resource Finder adds a Resource Scanner item that locates ores and other resources within a set range around the player.

FabricClient and serverCC0 1.0 UniversalOpen source1.19.4 – 1.21.1

What it does

The scanner searches a 16-block spherical area around the player. Holding the use key switches it to a circular scan mode, which doubles the scan range but checks only one horizontal layer. Results show the nearest matching block's horizontal direction and whether it lies above or below the player, so the scanner works for finding deposits underground or at height.

The same scanner can track up to 5 resource types at once. Its scan time is limited, so it has to be charged with the resource it looks for: one ingot, gem or dust of a material charges it for 1 minute, and a block of that material charges it for 9 minutes, while smaller items such as a nugget charge it for one ninth of a minute. Charge values can be changed in the generated configuration file, which lists every item that charges the scanner.

The mod is client and server, so both the server and every player need it. It requires Fabric API and Fabric Language Kotlin, and files target 1.19.4 – 1.21.1 on Fabric. The code is open source under CC0 1.0 Universal, and the author notes that the mod is beta quality, with its performance impact not yet fully known. Bugs and questions can be sent to the issue tracker.

Key features

  1. Resource scanner item

A single handheld item locates ores and other resources near the player, with a 16-block spherical scan by default.

  2. Circular scan mode

Switching the scan mode doubles the range but checks only one layer, and shows the direction and height of the nearest match.

  3. Multiple resource tracking

One scanner can search for up to 5 resource types at the same time, each with its own detection result.

  4. Charge-based scan time

Ingots, gems, dusts and blocks add scan minutes, so the scanner stays usable in short play sessions.
