Command Escape

by HiSierra

Command Escape lets a player send a chat message that starts with a slash as plain text instead of running it as a command, by placing a backslash in front of it.

FabricClient-side onlyMIT LicenseOpen source1.19.1 – 26.2

What it does

Typing a backslash before a message makes the game treat the slash command that follows as ordinary chat, so it appears in the chat log without being executed. Typing a command without the backslash runs it as usual. The result is a way to say something like /help to other players while the command itself stays unused.

The mod is a simple Fabric addition for players who want to write slash-prefixed words in chat. It works with other chat and command mods, and it only affects the message the player types, not any server-side behavior. It is a client-side only mod, so only the client needs it and the server runs without it. Command Escape is published for Fabric across 27 release versions, 1.19.1 – 26.2, and is released under the MIT License, so the code is open source.

Key features

  1. Backslash escape

A backslash typed at the start of a message sends the rest of the line as regular chat text.

  2. Plain command text

A message such as /help or /gamemode creative is posted as text rather than executed as a command.

  3. Normal commands still work

Commands typed without a leading backslash are sent and run as they would be without the mod.

Questions

Does Command Escape need to be installed on the server?

No. It is installed on the player's side alone, so servers need nothing.

Which loader does Command Escape use?

It is published for Fabric only, with the latest file 1.0.0+mc26.2 for 26.2, dated 2026-08-25.

Can a command still be run after using the mod?

Yes. Commands typed without a leading backslash are sent and run normally, and the backslash only changes the message that follows it.

What the author says

A simple Fabric mod that allows you to escape commands in chat using a backslash. It can also be used with other things. Simply prefix any command with a backslash to send it as regular text: - \/help → sends "/help" in chat instead of running the command - \/tp @p 0 100 0 → sends "/tp @p 0 100 0" as a message …
