Client side painting variants
Client side painting variants lets a resource pack add new paintings to the game without replacing any of the vanilla ones.
What it does
Custom painting variants are defined through resource packs. A pack places painting textures in the assets textures/painting folder and adds painting variant JSON files under assets painting variant, using the same format that the data pack system uses for adding variants. Each variant sets its width and height in blocks, with values from 1 to 16.
The mod is client-side only, so players who have it see the extra paintings, while players without it see the regular set sent by the server. Two players who run the mod with the same resource packs see the same paintings. Paintings must still be defined per world, since Minecraft 1.21 loads painting variants from data packs and the server admin controls which ones are present. The mod requires Fabric API, and it is open source under the Mozilla Public License 2.0.
Key features
Resource pack paintings
New painting variants come from resource packs, leaving the default paintings in place.
Non-destructive additions
Vanilla paintings are never overridden by another vanilla painting, so the original artwork stays intact.
Width and height range
Each custom variant can be sized from 1 to 16 blocks in width and height.
Example pack structure
The project includes an example resource pack layout showing where textures and variant JSON files go.

Use cases
Who it’s for: Resource pack authors and players who want more painting artwork in their own client. Server owners who want the new variants to exist in a world need a data pack to define them.
