Clear-fix

by noahreinalter

Clear-fix adds a confirmation step to the clear command, so a player who types it without intending to wipes nothing on the first try.

FabricQuiltServer required, client optionalGNU General Public License v3.0 onlyOpen source1.20.1 – 1.21.1

What it does

The mod changes the clear command so that a first use only asks for confirmation. A second use within a 10-second window carries out the clear. The author wrote the change after clearing an inventory by accident and repeating the command, and it targets the short form that omits a username, which is the one most often typed by mistake.

Only the server needs the mod for the protection to apply. Servers require it, while the client may also carry it. Server console and command blocks still run the command without a confirmation step, so the protection covers players and not automated input. Files are published for Fabric and Quilt, for three game versions, 1.20.1, 1.21 and 1.21.1, under the GNU General Public License v3.0 only, and the source code and issue tracker are public.

The mod depends on Fabric API. The latest Fabric build is 1.2.1+mc1.21 for 1.21.1, released 2024-08-21, and the latest Quilt build is 1.0 for 1.20.1, released 2023-09-14, so the Quilt line stops at 1.20.1.

Key features

  1. Confirmation for clear

The clear command asks for a second use before it removes any items from the target player.

  2. 10-second confirmation window

The second use has to come within 10 seconds of the first, after which the confirmation expires.

  3. Short form protected

The version of the command typed without a username is covered by the same confirmation step.

  4. Console bypass remains

Commands sent from the server console or command blocks run the clear immediately, with no confirmation.

Questions

Does Clear-fix need Fabric API?

Yes. Fabric API is a required dependency on both Fabric and Quilt, and it has to be installed next to Clear-fix.

Does every player need Clear-fix installed?

No. The server is required and the client is optional, so players can join a server running the mod without installing it.

Does the confirmation apply to commands from the console?

No. Commands sent from the server console or from command blocks still clear items immediately without a confirmation step.

Which game versions does Clear-fix support?

Files exist for 1.20.1, 1.21 and 1.21.1. The Quilt file is published for 1.20.1 only, and the latest Fabric file targets 1.21.1.
