Chat in Color
by schmeh
Chat in Color gives each player a chat color on the client, assigned at random and editable by hand for any player name.
What it does
Chat in Color assigns a chat color to each player automatically, picking one at random when a name first appears. A player can then be recognized by color at a glance in the chat window, which helps when several people are talking at once. The colors are chosen on the client, so the mod changes only how messages look for the player who installed it.
Colors can also be set manually for any player. Custom choices are stored and kept between sessions, so a color picked once stays in place after the game is restarted. The mod is published for Fabric only, with builds covering 1.21 – 1.21.8 across nine release versions. The latest file is 1.0.1 for 1.21.8, released on 2025-10-26.
Installation requires Fabric API and Fabric Language Kotlin, both of which must be present alongside Chat in Color. The mod is released under the Apache License 2.0 and is open source, with public source code and an issue tracker.
