Censor Chat
Censor Chat is a client-side chat filter that replaces blacklisted words with a single space, using a list the player edits in a JSON file.
What it does
Players build their own blacklist of words, and any message that contains one of them is shown with each listed word swapped for a single space, so the rest of the message stays readable. The list has no fixed size, so it can hold as many words as the player needs. Censor Chat is published for Fabric, Forge and Quilt across eight release versions, 1.20 – 1.21, and is released under the MIT License, though it is not open source.
The mod is installed on the client only. Players drop it into the mods folder, launch the game and close it once to create the config folder above the mods folder, then open censor chat.json in any text editor to add or remove words. Quilted Fabric API (QFAPI) and Quilt Standard Libraries (QSL) are required dependencies, so both must be present alongside the mod. Server owners who want the filter to apply to every player still need each player to install it, since the environment is client-side only.
Key features
Custom word blacklist
Any words the player adds to the config file are removed from incoming and outgoing chat messages.
Single-space replacement
Each blacklisted word becomes one space, which keeps the surrounding text readable.
Unlimited list size
The blacklist accepts any number of words, with no preset cap on how many can be listed.
JSON config file
Words are stored in censor chat.json inside the config folder, so they can be edited in any text program.

Use cases
Who it’s for: Players who want to hide specific words in chat on Fabric, Forge or Quilt, and who are comfortable editing a JSON file. Because it runs on the client, it works on any server without the server needing to install anything.
How it compares
CommandCensor is a Fabric mod for 1.21 – 1.21.5, client-side only and open source under the MIT License, so it covers a different set of versions. Profanity Guard runs on the server instead, works on Fabric and Forge for 1.20.1 – 1.20.6, and is not open source. Server Chat Sync is also server-side only and runs on Fabric and NeoForge for 1.20.5 – 1.21.10, so it cannot be used by a player alone.
