Cave Dweller Evolved is a Forge and NeoForge mod that adds configurable behaviour and several fixes to the mob it forks.

What it does

The fork adds a range of extra behaviour to the creature, most of it adjustable in the config. It also fixes some problems, such as the mob working correctly in multiplayer. A separate Fabric port made by another user exists, but it is not part of this release.

Installation needs Geckolib, and the mod runs on client and server, so both the server and every player need it. Files are published for Forge and NeoForge across the 1.18.2 – 1.20.1 range, under the MIT License, and the code is open source. The latest file, 1.7.0 for 1.20.1, came out on 2023-12-20. There are no plans for ports below 1.18.2.

Spawn timing and biome choice are controlled by a datapack, which takes priority over the defaults. The default biome tag, cave dweller surface biomes, contains forge:is spooky.

Key features

  1. Configurable behaviour

    The creature gains extra behaviour that can be tuned through the config, so server owners can adjust how it acts.

  2. Spawn timer commands

    Commands report a timer as current over target, and can move it forward or back in ticks.

  3. Spawn target display

    A command shows the spawn target, the place where the cave dweller appears and targets the player.

  4. Datapack biome control

    A datapack file lists the biomes where the mob spawns, overriding the built-in default tag.
