BrewingStandSmoke

by Trivait

A brewing stand that emits smoke when a player holds the use button, with the smoke color taken from the brewed potion, is what BrewingStandSmoke adds to Fabric worlds.

FabricMIT LicenseOpen source1.21 – 26.2

What it does

Holding the button on a brewing stand starts smoke that persists while the button is held and fades a few ticks after release. The effect applied to the smoke depends on what is placed inside the stand. With particle tinting enabled, the smoke takes on the color of the effect. Players who run the mod too watch the smoke move, and it tracks each character's eye position and facing direction as they change.

Both sides of a server are covered by the mod, but in different ways. On a Spigot or Paper server a separate plugin named BrewingStandSmoke is used instead of the mod itself, and the mod is required on the server side in that setup. Players without the mod play normally and simply do not see the effect, while players with the mod see the smoke of others. Both settings persist across server restarts. Configuration is reachable through Mod Menu, and the mod can be turned off entirely, with toggles for sounds, particles above the stand, and white particles.

BrewingStandSmoke requires Cloth Config API and Mod Menu, as well as Fabric API. Files are published for Fabric only, across 16 release versions, 1.21 – 26.2, under the MIT License, and the project is open source with public source code and an issue tracker.

Key features

  1. Smoke from the brewing stand

Holding the use button on a brewing stand starts smoke that lasts while the button is held.

  2. Effect-colored smoke

The effect of the stand's contents sets the effect applied, and with tinting on the smoke color matches the effect color.

  3. Tinting intensity

Effect color tinting has an adjustable intensity.

  4. Visible to other players

Other players with the mod see the smoke, with particles that follow the eye position and look direction.

Questions

What the author says

Crouch (Shift) and hold right click on a brewing stand and your character starts smoking. Release and they exhale. The smoke particles come out from the mouth in the direction you're looking. Depending on what's inside the stand, an effect gets applied while you smoke. It stays active as long as you hold the button…
