[Archived] Blessing of Return

by CodingLegend0100

Blessing of Return adds a Magic enchantment that can bring an enchanted item back after its owner dies, with a 10% chance of failure.

FabricForgeQuiltServer required, client optionalCreative Commons Attribution Non Commercial Share Alike 4.01.21

What it does

Players apply the Blessing of Return enchantment to items that have durability. When the player dies, an enchanted item is returned to them. The return carries a cost, and it does not always work: a roll of 10% fails, and a failed item still comes back, but only with 5% of its durability left.

The enchantment is configured through three values. Damage Percent sets how much of the item's total durability is taken as damage. Damage Type chooses how that damage is applied: Set Percent makes the item's damage equal Damage Percent, while Remove Percent removes damage equal to that share of the item's total durability. Damage Chance sets the percent chance that Damage Percent is applied to an enchanted item at death.

The mod is archived and no longer updated. It is licensed as Creative Commons Attribution Non Commercial Share Alike 4.0 and is not open source. Only the server has to run it: players may add it, but a server that runs it does not require it on clients. Files target Fabric, Forge and Quilt for 1.21 only, with 1.1.2+mod for 1.21 as the latest file, dated 2024-08-03. It is also available as a data pack.

Key features

  1. Keep items on death

Items enchanted with Blessing of Return are returned to the player after death, which keeps them from being lost.

  2. Configurable damage

Damage Percent and Damage Type decide how much durability is spent on the return and whether it is set or removed.

  3. Chance to apply damage

Damage Chance sets how often the configured damage is applied at death, so the cost is not fixed.

  4. Failure case

A 10% chance to fail still returns the item, with only 5% durability left.

No. Only the server must run the mod, and players may install it for their own use, so a client without it can still join.

Which loaders does Blessing of Return support?

Files exist for Fabric, Forge and Quilt, all for 1.21, with 1.1.2+mod for 1.21 as the latest build for each loader.

What happens if the return fails?

A 10% chance applies. The item is still returned, but with only 5% of its durability remaining.

What the author says

The Blessing of Return is a new enchantment that can be applied to any items with durability. When you die, items enchanted with Blessing of Return will be returned to you at no cost, but there's a catch. The enchantment has a 10% chance to fail. When it fails, the item will still be returned to you but only with 5%…
