BlazeSDL
BlazeSDL replaces GLFW with SDL3 as the windowing library Minecraft uses on the client, and it is open source under the GNU Lesser General Public License v3.0 or later.
What it does
Minecraft's client has relied on GLFW for windowing and input. BlazeSDL swaps that layer for SDL3, the library Mojang already uses in a 26.3 snapshot, so the client talks to SDL3 instead. The change is aimed at better Wayland behavior and improved input method editor support for text entry in chat and signs.
Event polling works differently under the mod, which avoids the JNI upcalls that GLFW makes for each polled event. The mod is client-side only, so a server does not need it and players join without installing anything. It targets Fabric and NeoForge, with files covering 26.1, 26.1.1, 26.1.2 and 26.2, and snapshot builds are published as well.
Installation needs only the loader and the mod file. The latest Fabric and NeoForge files are both 0.1.12 for 26.2, published on 2026-08-01, and the source code and issue tracker are public.
Key features
SDL3 windowing layer
Windowing and input run on SDL3 in place of GLFW, the library the client otherwise uses.
Wayland support
The windowing change is intended to give the client better behavior on Wayland desktops.
Lighter event polling
Event polling avoids the JNI upcalls GLFW makes, reducing overhead on each polled event.

Use cases
Wayland desktops
Players running the game under a Wayland desktop can use the SDL3 windowing layer in place of GLFW.
Text input in other languages
Players typing through an input method editor can use the mod's IME handling during chat and sign editing.
Who it’s for: Players who run the game under Wayland, and players who compose text with input method editors. Only the client needs the mod.
How it compares
WayGL is client-side only, open source under the MIT License, and covers 1.17 – 26.1.2 on Fabric, NeoForge and Quilt. Ixeris is client-side only and open source under the GNU Lesser General Public License v3.0 only, with files for 1.16.5 – 26.3 on Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt. glfw-input is client-side only, open source under the MIT License, and built for Fabric with 1.21.11 as its only version. BlazeSDL is published for Fabric and NeoForge in its own range.

What the author says
Mojang already uses SDL3 in 26.3-snapshot 4. So no more new version will be supported in BlazeSDL!
