Bigger Crafting Tables

by WanionCane

Bigger Crafting Tables adds 5x5, 7x7, 9x9 and giant 9x9 crafting tables for Forge, so players can build recipes that a standard 3x3 grid cannot hold.

ForgeClient and serverMozilla Public License 2.0Open source1.7.10 – 1.12.2

What it does

The larger tables let a recipe use more slots than vanilla allows, which makes it possible to create harder early-game recipes without changing how the 3x3 table behaves. Recipes for the new tables are created through the Creating Tables mechanism, and the Giant Crafting Table 9x9 is available on 1.12.2 only.

Crafting is handled differently from vanilla. The mod matches recipes by a Recipe Key built from the width, height and size of a recipe, so it only checks similar recipes instead of looping through every recipe on each placement. The author states this reduces CPU usage during crafting and avoids the freezes that shift-click crafting can cause in the vanilla grid.

The mod is published for Forge and covers Minecraft 1.7.10 and 1.12.2. Its files run on client and server, so the server and every player need it. The source code is public, and the project is released under the Mozilla Public License 2.0, which makes it open source.

Key features

  1. 5x5, 7x7 and 9x9 tables

Crafting tables with larger grids are added, so recipes can use more input slots.

  2. Giant Crafting Table 9x9

A giant 9x9 table is included on 1.12.2, for the largest recipes.

  3. Efficient recipe matching

Recipes are matched by a key built from width, height and size, so crafting checks fewer candidates per action.

  4. Faster shift-click crafting

Crafting a full stack does not loop through every recipe for each item, which avoids the freeze the vanilla grid can show.

Use cases

Harder early-game recipes

Pack makers can require larger grids for early items, slowing progression without adding new items.

Large modpacks

Packs with many recipes, such as the Avaritia pack, benefit from the reduced crafting overhead.

Who it’s for: Modpack creators who want larger grids for recipes, and server owners who want less CPU load during crafting.
