Better Enchanting
by TheCuteFox
Better Enchanting replaces the vanilla enchanting system on Fabric, so that enchantments depend less on randomness and more on exploration and crafting.
What it does
Anvils can no longer repair items with XP, and combining two enchanted items is no longer possible. Renaming still works. Enchantments are instead tied to materials that players gather: some are found only in specific places such as Ancient City, and higher tiers such as Protection IV require an essence material that must be crafted. The enchanting cost is calculated from XP, lapis and items, and every value is configurable.
Librarians stop selling enchanted books and sell enchantment ingredients instead. Most treasure enchantments are included in this change, and the Enchantment Catalyst stores enchantments while the Grindstone is removed in favor of the anvil. The mod adds an Upgrade Smithing Template that turns iron tools into diamond tools, and it is compatible with the official Villager Trade Rebalance datapack. Better Enchanting is open source under the Apache License 2.0 and runs on client and server. Files are published for Fabric for six release versions, 1.20 – 1.21.10, with 1.21.10-1.5.2 for 1.21.10 as the latest. It requires Fabric API and MidnightLib.
Key features
Material-based enchantments
Higher enchantment tiers depend on crafted or found materials instead of XP-based repairs.
Enchantment Catalyst
The Catalyst stores enchantments and replaces the Grindstone, using the anvil for the same enchanted books.
Librarian trades
Librarians sell enchantment ingredients of several rarities in place of enchanted books.
Configurable enchanting costs
Costs are calculated from XP, lapis and items, and the enchanting table list can be hidden in the configuration.
