Armored Elytra
by mrmelon54
Armored Elytra lets the chestplate and the elytra share one slot, so a character can wear armor and glide at once.
What it does
The mod shows a chestplate elytra in the same slot as a chestplate, so players keep armor protection while flying. It is a client-side only mod, so only the player's game needs it and servers run without it. Installation needs Fabric Loader and Fabric API on Fabric, and the Fabric, Forge and Quilt builds are published across 10 release versions, 1.19 – 1.20.4.
The datapack from Vanilla Tweaks is the other half of the setup: the Armored Elytra datapack and the Plated Elytra datapack from Voodoo Beard are both needed to use armored elytra recipes, depending on the chosen route. Compatibility with the Advanced Netherite mod is noted through a changed build of Armored Elytra made by Bill Parrott, and Colytra by TheIllusiveC4 is listed as supported as well, alongside releases from version 3.0.0 onward of the Armored Elytra Spigot plugin written by pim16aap2.
The code is licensed under the GNU Lesser General Public License v3.0 only and is open source, with the source code and issue tracker publicly linked. The latest file, 1.0.6 for 1.20.4, was published on 2024-02-17, and the mod was first published on 2022-05-29.
Key features
Chestplate and elytra slot
A chestplate elytra is shown in the same slot as the chestplate, so both equipment pieces can be worn at once.
Datapack-based recipes
Armored elytra work through a datapack, with the Vanilla Tweaks version as the reference option.
Client-side display
The display runs only in the player's game, so the server does not need a copy to show the armored elytra.

A player who wants protection while gliding keeps a chestplate on the body slot and an elytra on the same slot.
Modded armor sets
Players who use the Advanced Netherite mod can pair it with the modified Armored Elytra build.
Who it’s for: Players who want armor and flight together, and server owners who run the Spigot plugin with the matching datapacks.
