Armor Unlocked

by black_dog20

Armor Unlocked lifts the default 80% cap on armor damage reduction, letting modded armor reach its full stated protection on Forge.

ForgeClient and serverAll rights reserved1.18.2 – 1.20.1

What it does

Minecraft limits how much damage armor can absorb, with a default ceiling of 80%. Many modded armor sets are built to exceed that limit, so their extra protection is cut off early. This mod changes the armor calculation so the cap no longer applies, while keeping the formula close to the vanilla version.

A configuration option controls the behavior. The full removal is switched off by default, and when it is switched off the maximum damage reduction is raised from 80% to 90% instead of being removed. Server owners can choose which setting suits their pack. The author recommends pairing the mod with AttributeFix, which removes the vanilla armor point cap, and the mod uses mixins that aim to stay compatible with other mods that change armor in similar ways.

The project is published for Forge only, across six game versions with 1.20-1.0.2 as the latest file for 1.20.1. Every player and the server need a copy of the mod. The mod is not open source and is released under All rights reserved, with public links for the source code and the issue tracker.

Key features

  1. Damage reduction cap removed

Armor is no longer held to the default 80% reduction, so modded armor can give its full protection.

  2. Optional 90% ceiling

With the full removal off, the maximum reduction rises to 90% rather than disappearing entirely.

  3. Configurable behavior

A config option lets server owners switch between full removal and the raised ceiling.

  4. Formula kept close to vanilla

The calculation is changed as little as possible, so armor still behaves in the familiar way apart from the cap.

What the author says

Minecraft has caps on how much damage reduction armor can do, with the default limit being 80%. This caps early with much modded armors. This mod aim to fix that problem, by changing the armor formula a bit. It does this using mixins so it is not compatible with other mods doing the same. The formula is more or less…
