Archive

by kilim81

Archive is a Fabric, Forge and NeoForge storage mod that backs up Minecraft worlds automatically, so a player who needs an earlier save can return to it.

FabricForgeNeoForgeClient-side onlyAll rights reserved1.20 – 1.21.11

What it does

Archive backs up worlds without manual steps and keeps the copies in ZIP files with automatic numbering and date stamps. Backups can be written to several folders at once, including a computer folder, a OneDrive folder synced to the cloud, or an external hard drive. When a configured limit is reached, the oldest backups are deleted, and the default limit is 10 backups, which keeps disk use in check. Files renamed or reformatted outside the mod no longer count toward the backup count.

Settings are changed through a config screen, although the config files can still be edited by hand. The mod is client-side only, so it runs in single-player and on the client, and a server does not need it. Archive requires Cloth Config API and Mod Menu, and game versions 1.20 – 1.21.11 are covered, with Fabric builds the only ones confirmed as available for the newest versions. The code is not open source and is released under All rights reserved, with the public issue tracker as the place to report problems.

Key features

  1. Automatic world backups

Worlds are saved on a schedule without the player starting each backup by hand.

  2. Multiple backup locations

Copies can be written to several folders, including OneDrive and external drives.

  3. Automatic pruning

Old backups are removed once the configured limit is reached, with a default of 10.

  4. ZIP compression with numbering

Each save is stored as a compressed ZIP file with automatic numbering and date stamps.

  5. Config screen

Backup settings are managed in an in-game screen, and the files stay available for manual editing.

How it compares

Full comparison

World Backup is a Fabric mod for 26.1 – 26.2 that is client-side only and open source under the MIT License, so it covers a later version range than Archive. Backup System works on Fabric and Forge for 1.20 – 1.20.6 and is server-side only, so it runs on a server, not on the client. Bkups is server required with client optional, and is licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution Non Commercial Share Alike 4.0 license, not open source.

Questions

Does Archive need Cloth Config API and Mod Menu?

Yes. Both are required dependencies and must be installed alongside Archive for it to run.

Which loader should be chosen for Archive?

Fabric has files for the newest versions, while Forge and NeoForge builds are alpha releases with older latest files.

Does Archive need to be installed on a server?

No. Servers do not need it; each player installs it for their own game.
