Ancestral Archetypes

by BorisShoes

Ancestral Archetypes is a server-side Fabric mod, inspired by Origins, that gives players the abilities of mobs such as the Axolotl, Fox, Warden and Ender Dragon.

What it does

Each player picks one of 11 Archetypes, and every Archetype carries its own strengths and drawbacks. The mod counts 30 playable mobs and around 100 abilities in total. Abilities include fire volleys, fireballs, Enderman-style teleporting, gliding on wings, burrowing through the ground and brewing free potions. Weaknesses are deliberate: Aquarians suffer on dry land, Infernals suffer in the cold, and Golems lose natural healing.

The mod was built for multiplayer play, with team-aware abilities and a spyglass that reveals what rival players are doing. Server owners can add or remove abilities and grant Archetypes with commands, view how Archetypes are distributed across the server, and change over 200 config options without a restart. The mod works without a resource pack, since Ability Items show vanilla items. The source code, issue tracker and wiki are public, and the mod is open source under the Open Software License 3.0.

Ancestral Archetypes requires Fabric API. It runs on the server only, so players join without installing anything. Files cover 1.21.4 – 26.3 across 10 release versions, and the latest Fabric file is 1.5.2+26.3 for 26.3, published on 2026-10-15.

Key features

  1. Mob-based Archetypes

Eleven Archetypes give players the abilities of 30 mobs, each with its own strengths and drawbacks.

  2. Balanced weaknesses

Each drawback is tied to its Archetype, so a strong pick always comes with a cost to weigh.

  3. Archetype browsing menu

Players open a menu to read each ability with its exact numbers, and can browse the list without choosing one.

  4. Customizable Spirit Mount

Players can set colors for their Spirit Mount, glider wings and helmet, and ride a soulbound mount.
