AIChat

by Kialan_

AIChat lets players send questions to ChatGPT from inside Minecraft, with answers returned to the chat, and it is a client-side mod for Fabric.

FabricClient-side onlyMIT LicenseOpen source1.20 – 1.21.5

What it does

A client-side command sends a question to ChatGPT and returns the answer in the Minecraft chat. Players can also attach a screenshot: a Send OpenAI button captures the screen and uploads it to a model that can process pictures. The mod works while a player is connected to a server, since only the client needs it.

Before first use, the OpenAI API key is pasted into the config screen, opened by running the command with no arguments, and saved. The OpenAI account must hold some funds. The model name and the assistant role can be changed in the same screen; the default role has ChatGPT act as an assistant that helps players, with answers capped at four short sentences. Files are published for Fabric only, across 13 release versions 1.20 – 1.21.5, and the code is open source under the MIT License. The mod requires Fabric API.

Key features

  1. Chat command

A command asks ChatGPT a question, and the answer appears in the chat without leaving the game.

  2. Screenshot questions

A Send OpenAI button sends a captured screenshot along with a question to a picture-capable model.

  3. Configurable model and role

The model name and the assistant role are editable in the config screen, with a default for each.

  4. Short answers

The default role asks for replies of at most four short sentences, which keeps answers brief in chat.

Questions

Does AIChat need Fabric API?

Yes. Fabric API is required and must be installed next to AIChat on Fabric.

Does AIChat have to be installed on the server?

No. Servers do not need it; each player installs it for their own game.

Why does a screenshot question need a specific model?

The screenshot feature sends pictures, so the model must process images. The mod notes that the model should handle pictures, and the default model name can be changed in the config screen.
