ABCDwater

by lao2010123

ABCDwater is a client-side NeoForge mod that places a water source automatically when a player falls, so the fall does no damage.

NeoForgeClient-side onlyMIT LicenseOpen source26.1.2

What it does

When a player falls while holding a water bucket, the mod predicts the landing position with a physics model that steps forward one tick at a time, using gravity of 0.08 per tick squared and air drag. It then places the water on the block the player will land on, which cancels the fall damage. The water bucket can stay in the hotbar while this runs.

Placement can also be triggered by hand. Looking straight down and right-clicking places water on the first block directly below, and if that fails the mod falls back to other interactions. After landing with an empty bucket, the mod picks the water source back up, so the bucket is refilled and reused. Water placed in the Nether evaporates, in line with vanilla dimension rules.

The mod is client-side only, so the server does not need it, and servers without it still accept the same placement behaviour from the client. It is installed by placing the JAR in the .minecraft/mods folder. ABCDwater is open source under the MIT License and has files for 26.1.2, published on 2026-07-05 and updated on 2026-07-20.

Key features

  1. Automatic fall protection

Water is placed under a falling player so the landing does no fall damage, with no key press needed.

  2. Physics prediction

The landing block is found by simulating the next ticks of the fall with gravity and drag, not by guessing.

  3. Look-down placement

Looking down and right-clicking places water on the first block below, with fallback interactions when that fails.

  4. Automatic recycling

After landing, the water source is picked up again with an empty bucket, so the same bucket can be used repeatedly.

  5. Nether evaporation

Water placed in the Nether evaporates, so the mod only places water where vanilla water can exist.

  6. Bucket stays in hotbar

The water bucket remains in the hotbar during the process, so it does not have to be reselected.

How it compares

Full comparison

Adaptive Tick is a different tool: it runs on Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt for 1.21 – 1.21.11, its environment is server required with an optional client, and it is released under the MIT License. Sands Fall Immediately is server-side only on NeoForge and is released under the Mozilla Public License 2.0. Both differ from ABCDwater in environment and loaders, while ABCDwater is client-side only and runs on NeoForge.

Questions

Does ABCDwater need to be installed on the server?

No. The mod is client-side only, so the server does not need it, and the fall protection runs on the player's side.

Which loader and version does ABCDwater support?

It is published for NeoForge only, for game version 26.1.2. The latest file is 2.0.0, dated 2026-07-20.

Does the water bucket get used up when falling?

No. After landing, the mod picks the water source back up with an empty bucket, so the bucket can be reused for the next fall.
