by ChloePrime

With AAA Particles installed, the Effekseer particle format (.efkefc) can be played in Minecraft, and effects can be loaded from resource packs.

What it does

The mod is a library that lets Minecraft display Effekseer particle effects, which are stored as .efkefc files. By default it replaces the vanilla lightning effect with an Effekseer effect, so the change shows up without any extra setup. Mods that build on it can call the same effect system for their own particles.

Effects used by the mod are not required to follow a fixed naming scheme. Resources such as textures can keep their original file names, because the mod removes the name check on resource location paths. Effects can also be placed in resource packs, and the source code includes an example showing how to arrange those files. Players need it on the client, while the server can add it for extra features. The code is under the MIT License and is open source. Builds cover 1.18.2 – 26.1.2, and Architectury API is bundled inside the mod.

Key features

  1. Effekseer particle playback

Loads .efkefc particle files and plays them in the game world, based on the Effekseer effect format.

  2. Lightning replacement

Swaps the vanilla lightning effect for an Effekseer effect by default, so storms look different.

  3. Unchecked resource names

Effect textures and other resources keep their original names, since the name validation on resource paths is removed.

  4. Resource pack loading

Effek files can be loaded from resource packs, which lets packs add custom particle effects.

Use cases

Custom effects in a resource pack

A pack author places .efkefc files and their textures in a resource pack, and the mod loads them without renaming.

Mod developers adding particles

Developers who build on the library can use Effekseer effects in their own mods, following the example in the source code.

Who it’s for: Players who want more detailed storm lightning, pack creators who ship Effekseer effects, and developers of mods that need Effekseer particles. Server owners only need the mod if a feature on their server depends on it.

Questions

Does AAA Particles need to be installed on the server?

No. Only the client has to run it, so the server may run without it and players still need it on their own side.

Which loaders does AAA Particles support?

Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt. The latest Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt files are dated 2026-07-10.

Can KubeJS be used with AAA Particles?

KubeJS is an optional dependency, so it is not needed to run the mod, but it is listed as one that works alongside it.

In the catalog

AAA Particles is one of 3,514 Library mods on ModsFinder, and one of 2,348 Library mods for Fabric. 15,189 mods support Minecraft 26.1.2.
