Wither & Golem Spawn Fix

by Goulden

Wither & Golem Spawn Fix changes how Wither and iron golem spawns find a safe position, so that a spawned golem does not end up suffocated in blocks.

NeoForgeServer-side onlyMIT LicenseOpen source1.21.1 – 26.3

What it does

The mod replaces the vanilla need for air blocks around a spawn with its own structure-based system. When a golem is summoned, the mod looks for a safe position instead of letting the creature appear inside walls. Because a golem's hitbox can suffocate when the space is cramped, the mod can place the next wall blocks at head height so the creature is not stuck.

Two options are offered for handling the case. The first makes the golem immune to suffocation until it lands on the ground, so the code can wait for a useful moment to act. The second teleports the golem toward the direction with the fewest blocks, preferring corners, and can break blocks where that is needed. A golem will ignore directions that contain only unbreakable blocks. Golem following is included, and each feature can be enabled or disabled in a config file, with both options enabled by default.

Wither & Golem Spawn Fix is server-side only, so only the server needs it and players join without installing anything. It is built for NeoForge, with files for 1.21.1, 1.21.11, 26.1.2, 26.2 and 26.3, and the latest is 1.2 for 26.3. The mod is released under the MIT License and is open source, with public source code and an issue tracker.

Key features

  1. Safe golem spawning

Golems are placed in a checked position so the spawn does not put the creature inside solid blocks.

  2. Suffocation handling

A spawned golem can be made immune to suffocation until it reaches the ground, then the code acts.

  3. Teleport to open space

The golem can be moved toward the nearby direction with fewer blocks, preferring corners.

  4. Configurable features

Each feature can be switched on or off in a config file, and both options are enabled by default.

Use cases

Golem spawns in tight builds

Golems summoned inside cramped builds or near walls are moved or protected so they do not suffocate.

Who it’s for: Server owners who run survival or modded worlds and want golems and Wither spawns to appear in playable positions rather than inside terrain.

What the author says

This mod removes the need of air blocks when spawning a creature with structure-based system. (The block in question now can be any block) The mod also tries to spawn the golem in a safe position. Because of the golem's hitbox, it can be suffocated as soon as it spawns if it is next to a wall or blocks at head…
