Players who want a minimap and a world map in the corner of the screen can add VoxelMap-Updated, which also places waypoints and a radar.
What it does
The minimap draws alongside the game while the fullscreen world map keeps every area already explored. Waypoints can be created and listed, and a radar can show nearby players and mobs, with each group toggled on its own. A cave mode is available for underground travel.
VoxelMap-Updated is a client mod that needs Fabric API on Fabric and runs with no server installation. An optional server-side part lets server owners restrict the map, toggle deathpoints, and set a custom teleport command for waypoints. It works on Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt, and a separate Paper, Spigot and Purpur plugin provides the same server options on those platforms. Files cover 1.17.1 – 26.3 and the mod is released under All rights reserved, so it is not open source. Snapshot builds are also published.

A player exploring unfamiliar terrain can mark points of interest and check the minimap for direction.
Restricting the map on a server
A server owner can block the minimap, world map or waypoints for everyone through the optional server part.
