VortexMobs
by Sauron05
VortexMobs is a Fabric mod that changes how hostile mobs in survival worlds respond to the way players fight them.
What it does
A background system watches how fights end on the server and gradually builds a combat profile for that server. Over time this profile shapes mob behavior, so hostile mobs push back against the tactics players rely on most. Adaptation happens over many real encounters rather than overnight, and a longer-running server gives the mobs a profile that more closely reflects the community's playstyle.
VortexMobs is published for Fabric and is open source under the Apache License 2.0. It is also available for the Paper, Spigot, Purpur and Folia server platforms. The mod covers 15 release versions, 1.21 – 26.1.2, with 1.1.0 for 26.1.2 as the latest Fabric file. The author is Sauron05, and the first build dates from 2026-05-07.
Key features
Adaptive mob AI
Hostile mob AI learns player tactics over time, so repeated strategies become less effective against mobs.
Server-specific combat profile
The combat profile is built from the server's own fights and differs from one server to another.
Counter-tactics against common play
Mobs respond to habits such as bow use, shielding and height advantage, reducing the routine feel of combat.
Background observation
The learning runs silently in the background and does not require player commands to function.

Use cases
Survival servers
Server owners can run VortexMobs so that hostile mobs stay a threat as the community's combat habits settle.
Single-player survival
A solo player can use the mod to keep fights from becoming a routine chore in a long-running world.
Who it’s for: Server owners and survival players who want hostile mobs to respond to their habits over a long run of play. The mod suits worlds and servers where combat has started to feel predictable.
How it compares
Hostile Awareness is client-side only, so players install it and servers run without it, and it is released under the MIT License for 1.21.4 – 1.21.11. Zombie Tactics is server-side only, open source under the GNU General Public License v3.0 or later, and published for Fabric and NeoForge across 1.21 – 1.21.1. Enhanced Mobs+ is also server-side only, released under the MIT License for 1.21 – 1.21.6.

What the author says
Every Minecraft server eventually develops a meta. Players figure out that bows are safe. That height is an advantage. That shielding and burst damage make most encounters trivial. Once that happens, survival combat starts feeling like a routine chore instead of a real threat. VortexMobs was built to break that loop.
