Very Many Players (Fabric)
by ishland
Very Many Players reduces server load on busy multiplayer worlds by changing how packets, chunks and entity tracking are handled.
What it does
Installed on a server, the mod sends chunks through its own mechanism, with optional packet-level rate limiting. It adds per-player render distance at the packet level, so each connected player can receive a different view range. Area maps narrow the work for packet sending and player lookups to players who are actually nearby, and caches speed up tracking of entities and matching of recipe inputs.
On the client side the mod swaps the time source from GLFW calls through JNI to the Java runtime's own clock. For TCP connections, packet priority borrowed from raknetify makes vanilla networking more responsive, though the author notes this works more reliably without reverse proxies such as Velocity or SSH port forwarding. The mod requires Fabric API. Fabric is the only loader it targets, with 32 release versions published for 1.18 – 26.3 and open source code under the MIT License.
Key features
Chunk sending mechanism
Chunks are sent through the mod's own system, which can optionally apply packet-level rate limiting.
Per-player render distance
Render distance is set per player at the packet level, so each connected player can receive a different view range.
Area maps and caches
Area maps and caches cut down work for nearby packet sending, player lookups, entity trackers and ingredient matching.
Entity collision iteration
Entity iteration for collision checks is optimized to reduce the cost of crowded areas.
Java clock for timing
The client reads time from the Java runtime instead of calling GLFW through JNI.

Use cases
High player count servers
Server owners running worlds with many simultaneous players can use the mod to reduce per-player networking and tracking work.
Who it’s for: Server owners who host many simultaneous players on Fabric. Players connecting to such a server get the client-side time source change when they also install the mod.
How it compares
Chunkumulator is server-side only, open source under the MIT License and published for 1.15 – 1.20.1 on Fabric, so it covers older versions than this mod. ModelEngine Client Optimization is client-side only and published for Fabric and NeoForge across 1.19.4 – 26.2, under a custom license that is not open source. Entity Collision FPS Fix is client-side only, open source under the CC0 1.0 Universal license and published for Fabric and Forge across 1.19 – 1.19.2.
