visitors
Visitors lets players who are not on the whitelist join a server in spectator mode until they are approved, then moves them into normal play.
What it does
Visitors is a Fabric mod for server owners. A player who is not whitelisted can connect and look around the world in spectator mode, without taking part in survival. Once the player is added to the whitelist, the mod restores the saved spawn position and the default game mode, so the player starts playing from the normal state. Banned players are still refused, so the ban list keeps working.
The mod needs Fabric API and a whitelist on the server, since the approval step depends on the whitelist. Without the whitelist the mod does not work as intended, and the author notes it may not be needed on servers that do not use one. Visitors is server-side only, so players join without installing anything, and the code is open source under the CC0 1.0 Universal license. Files are published for Fabric across 13 release versions, 1.19.3 – 1.21.3, with 1.0.4+1.2x as the latest build for 1.21.3, released on 2024-06-14.
The author plans an adventure-mode-like visitor mode in which non-whitelisted players can interact with other players and with the world. That mode is not part of the current files, so the present behavior is limited to spectating and the approval step.
