✨ Viner ✨
by altaiiiir
Players who clear ore fields by hand can use Viner, a Forge mod that breaks a whole vein of vineable blocks with one mining action.
What it does
Viner is a configurable vein miner. While a player breaks a block that is set as vineable, the adjoining blocks of the same vein break in the same action. Activation is tied to a key, shift by default, so the player chooses when vein mining applies and can keep normal breaking otherwise. Inclusion and exclusion lists decide which blocks take part, and an option called Vine All lets the mod act on any block.
Shape vining is another mode. Holding the vine key and scrolling the mouse wheel switches between regular vining and shape vining, and the mining shape can be adjusted in the advanced settings. A hunger penalty lowers the player's food with each block broken this way, with the amount per block set in the advanced configuration.
Viner is published for Forge only, for the game versions 1.20.1 and 1.21.8. The latest file, 3.0.1, targets 1.21.8 and was released on 2025-10-26. Only the server and the players that join it need the mod, and the mod is open source under the GNU General Public License v3.0 only, with its source code and issue tracker public.
Key features
Vein mining
Blocks marked as vineable break together in one action, clearing the connected part of a vein at once.
Activation key
A configurable key, shift by default, turns vein mining on only while it is held during a break.
Shape vining
Scrolling the mouse wheel while the vine key is held changes the breaking pattern, with shapes set in the advanced configuration.
Inclusion and exclusion lists
Lists choose which blocks are vein-mined, letting a player narrow the feature to certain blocks or leave some out.
Hunger penalty
Each block broken through vining costs a set amount of hunger, which the advanced settings can change.

Use cases
Ore clearing in mining worlds
Players who dig large ore deposits can break a vein in one action instead of one block at a time.
Customized mining rules
Inclusion and exclusion lists let a server or player decide exactly which blocks the mod acts on.
Who it’s for: Players who work through ore in survival worlds and want to tune which blocks break together. Server owners who want the rules set for everyone on the server.
How it compares
ExoVeinmine is also a Forge vein miner for 1.20.1, open source under the GNU Lesser General Public License v3.0 only, and runs on client and server. SmoothBreak is a Forge mod for 1.20.1 – 1.21.1 under the MIT License, is open source, and is client-side only, so servers run without it.
