Villainous Horde Manager

by MaritheVillain

Villainous Horde Manager is a Library mod for building custom horde events, and it runs on the server alone, so players join without installing it.

What it does

The mod supplies a tool that creates Continuous Horde events, in which hostile mobs spawn over time at a chosen location. Entity types added to a horde must extend the PathfinderMob class. The spawn system weighs each mob by size, keeping the weights of larger mobs low to reduce cases where mobs end up suffocating inside blocks.

Spawning favors positions close to the player's Y level and prefers locations above the player over those below. If no suitable spot exists at that height, the system searches nearby Y levels and settles on the first one it finds. Fabric API is required as a dependency, and the mod is published for Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt across 8 release versions, 1.19 – 1.21.1, under the MIT License.

Key features

  1. Continuous horde events

A horde tool starts repeated spawn waves, so a region keeps producing mobs instead of firing a single burst.

  2. Custom horde definitions

Hordes are defined in JSON, and developers who need more control can extend the horde code instead of relying on the default data path.

  3. Size-aware spawn weights

Mobs with larger bounding boxes receive lower spawn weights, which keeps the system from crowding tight spaces.

  4. Y-level placement

Spawn positions are chosen near the player's height and favor the area above, falling back to nearby Y levels when needed.

Extending the spawn system

A mod developer can register new entities that extend PathfinderMob and rely on the weight rules to keep them spawning safely.

Who it’s for: Mod developers building custom hostile mobs, and server owners who want scripted horde events without changing the client.

What the author says

You can now make your own hordes via JSON magic See the github page for more information on how to do this. It and extending off of it is frankly the recommended path. If you are a mod developer and you want more control over a custom horde Also see the github page. Each module has an example of how to instantiate…
