Verdant Growth

by startraveler

Verdant Growth is a Fabric and NeoForge mod in which a spreading plant infection is released into the world and gradually converts the surrounding terrain.

FabricNeoForgeClient and serverApache License 2.0Open source1.21.4 – 1.21.11

What it does

Once released, the infection moves outward and takes over forests, converting matter and path into overgrown ground. Strangler vines wrap around and overgrow trees, and their roots reach underground, transforming stone such as deepslate into lush greenery. The growth expands through two primary mechanisms, so players must decide whether to fight it or join it.

Verdant Growth does not generate naturally in a world. Players must first locate an Overgrown Pyramid in a hidden jungle biome and deliberately trigger the release. When that happens, the player receives an advancement notification marking the start of the spread. The mod is built for survival play, where the relentless overgrowth brings new resources, challenges and dangers.

Every player and the server need a copy of the mod. Files are published for Fabric and NeoForge, with builds for 1.21.4, 1.21.6, 1.21.8, 1.21.9, 1.21.10 and 1.21.11. It is released under the Apache License 2.0 and is open source.

Key features

  1. Spreading plant infection

A plant infection moves outward across the world, taking over forests and reshaping the landscape over time.

  2. Strangler Wood and Heartwood

Trees covered in strangler vines drop large amounts of Strangler Wood and, less often, Heartwood, used for crafted tools and weapons.

  3. Imbued Heartwood equipment

Imbued Heartwood is a key step toward crafting equipment that repairs itself quickly.

  4. Plants with distinct uses

Poison Ivy makes Poison Arrows, Thorn Bushes supply traps and climbable material, and Strangler Tendrils craft into Rope Coils.

  5. Potion and crop plants

Cassava, Ube and Coffee serve as ingredients for potions and introduce their own mechanics, risks and rewards.
