VanillaBlockEnhancements
by paulevs
VanillaBlockEnhancements changes how several vanilla blocks behave, covering stairs, slabs, doors, trapdoors, fences and pumpkins, and it needs StationAPI to run.
What it does
Many vanilla blocks, including stairs and slabs, receive behaviour changes that fix a number of bugs tied to them. Doors and trapdoors can be opened and closed with a single action, double doors no longer open once, and some of these blocks only work when powered by redstone. Placing a block with shift-click opens its interface instead of placing it when the block would otherwise trigger an action, and items no longer drop on the ground when a container is closed, going into the inventory instead.
The mod also changes placement rules. Blocks take the player's facing direction rather than checking walls, full slabs can be placed vertically, and breaking a slab yields the expected halves instead of six pieces. Pumpkins and Jack o' Lanterns no longer require a block below them, and solid blocks connect to fences for better collisions and selections. Some tools now break certain vanilla blocks more effectively, while the new blocks break more slowly.
The mod runs on the Fabric and Babric loaders for the b1.7.3 game version only, and StationAPI is required on top of it. Both the client and the server need the mod. Snapshot builds are published, and the source code is open source under the MIT License, with a public issue tracker. It is safe to remove mid-game, although the author advises backing up the world and starting a new one when a version changes blocks used in existing saves.
Key features
Stair and slab fixes
Stairs and slabs receive behaviour changes that correct several bugs related to how they connect and break.
Door and trapdoor behaviour
Doors and trapdoors open and close with corrected timing, and double doors are handled as a pair.
Shift-click placement
Shift-click opens a block's interface during placement instead of placing it, and items stay in containers when closed.
Fence and pumpkin changes
Solid blocks connect to fences for smoother collisions, and pumpkins no longer need support from the block below.

How it compares
AnnoyanceFix StationAPI Edition is also a client and server mod for b1.7.3 on Fabric and Babric, and it is open source under the CC0 1.0 Universal license. Beta Placements targets Fabric for 1.21.1 and is distributed under the MIT License without being open source, so it does not cover b1.7.3. Extra More Blocks is Fabric-only for 26.2 and uses All rights reserved, so it does not share this mod's version or license.

What the author says
This mod changes behaviour for many vanilla blocks (like stairs and slabs) and fixes several bugs related to them. Versions before 0.2.10 of the mod are potentially not compatible with old saves (that have chests, doors and other blocks changed by that mod)! Please make a backup or start a new world
