Cryonic Config
by Slainlight
With Cryonic Config, mod authors get a library for reading and writing configuration files as JSON from a single shared place.
What it does
The library stores each mod's settings as a JSON file in the game's config folder, named after the mod id. On startup it reads every config file listed in a shared dictionary file named cryonicconfig.json, which lets one setup cover several mods at once. Settings are changed by editing those JSON files directly, and no in-game configuration screen is planned.
The tool is built to be simple to carry between Minecraft versions and loaders, and it keeps its dependencies minimal. Synced variables are sent to a player through chat messages that the mod intercepts, so no separate networking layer is needed. Internally, lookups from string keys to configuration storage and to variable objects use hash maps.
Cryonic Config is published for Fabric, Forge, NeoForge, Quilt and Babric, with snapshot builds available. It is open source under the MIT License, and its source code and issue tracker are public. Files cover game versions b1.7.3 – 26.3, and either side can run it, and neither needs it. It is required by Chisel Reborn, Bird Nests and Chiseler.
Key features
Per-mod config storage
Each mod's settings are stored as a JSON file in the config folder, named after the mod id.
Startup config loading
A shared list of config files is read during early initialization, so several mods load together.
Direct JSON editing
Settings are changed by editing the JSON files themselves, without an in-game screen.
Chat-based sync
Synced values are sent to players in chat and intercepted by the mod, with no extra network code.

Use cases
Multi-version mod authors
Authors maintaining one mod across many game versions can reuse the same config code with minimal changes.
Mods that depend on it
Chisel Reborn, Bird Nests and Chiseler require the library, so they rely on its config handling.
Who it’s for: Mod developers who want a small, portable config library across many Minecraft versions and loaders, and server owners who edit configuration files by hand.
Questions
Does Chisel Reborn need Cryonic Config installed?
Do server owners need the mod on clients?
Is there a GUI for changing settings?
