Upgradable Armor
Upgradable Armor lets a player combine a piece of armor with another piece of the same material to raise its tier, on Forge.
What it does
Upgrading works by placing an armor piece in the crafting center together with a second piece of that armor material. The result is a higher-tier version of the armor, so players can improve gear that could otherwise only be made by crafting a new set. Modded armor is supported too, as are armors whose crafting materials cannot be crafted into a block.
A durability check stops upgrades from becoming too strong, with the example of armor built from sticks given as a case it guards against. The maximum tier an armor can reach is set in the config. Regular enchantments carry over without issues. Armor that needs more than one material to upgrade is noted by the author as a complicated case.
The mod is client and server, so the server and every player need it. It is published for Forge only, with files for 1.12.2, 1.20.1, 1.20.2, 1.20.3, 1.20.4, 1.20.5 and 1.20.6. The latest file, 1.0.1, targets 1.20.1 and was published on 2026-05-22. The code is under the MIT License and is not open source.
Key features
Same-material upgrades
An armor piece is upgraded by adding a second piece of the same material in the crafting center.
Modded armor support
Armor added by other mods can be upgraded, including armors whose materials cannot be crafted into a block.
Durability check
A durability check keeps upgraded armor from becoming too strong, and the rule can be adjusted.
Configurable tier limit
The highest tier an armor can reach is a setting in the config file, so server owners can cap progression.
