Unstable

by Electrolyte

Unstable brings the Unstable Tools rituals of Extra Utilities 1 into modern Minecraft, as a Forge magic mod.

ForgeClient and serverMIT LicenseOpen source1.18.2 – 1.20.1

What it does

Unstable recreates the Unstable Tools and their rituals from the original Extra Utilities 1 for newer game versions. Its ritual activation and Pseudo Inversion mechanics are rebuilt for modern releases, and the mod is controlled through datapacks, so pack makers can adjust how its parts behave.

The mod is a concept port of an original Extra Utilities version created by RWTema, and its aim is to bring those rituals forward rather than add unrelated content. Several parts make up the mod, each covering one area of the original design. The wiki holds the details of each part and how the datapacks control them.

Forge is the only loader with files, for 1.18.2, 1.19.2 and 1.20.1. The latest file, 1.20.1-1.2.0, is dated 2023-07-11. Because it runs on client and server, the server and every player need it. Unstable is open source under the MIT License, and its source code is public.

Key features

  1. Reversing hoe transmutations

A reversing hoe changes blocks back through their transmutation steps, returning them to earlier forms.

  2. Reversing hoe property regression

The same hoe can roll back the properties of a block, undoing the state changes a player has applied.

  3. Pseudo Inversion of chest contents

Pseudo Inversion can reverse the contents of a chest, moving items through the ritual rather than deleting them.

  4. Pseudo Inversion of entity data

The ritual also acts on entity data, so mobs can be altered through the same inversion process.

  5. Datapack control

Multiple parts of the mod can be controlled with datapacks, letting world makers tune behavior without code changes.

Use cases

Revisiting Extra Utilities rituals

Players who know the Unstable Tools from Extra Utilities 1 can use the same rituals on newer versions.

Datapack-driven worlds

Map makers can use the datapack control to shape how the Pseudo Inversion and hoe mechanics behave in a world.

Who it’s for: The mod suits players familiar with the original Extra Utilities 1 rituals and pack makers who want datapack control over magic mechanics. Players new to the original design will find the wiki useful for the details of each part.
