Underp Hangables
by masa
Underp Hangables stops paintings and item frames from drifting sideways when their dropped items fall out of a broken wall.
What it does
Dropped items from broken paintings and item frames in vanilla Minecraft 1.9 and later are shifted horizontally into the wall behind the hanging object, then move away in a random direction. Underp Hangables removes that horizontal motion, so a dropped item falls straight down where the frame or painting was. The source has a note that the drift was a vanilla issue fixed in the 1.9 update, which leaves only a small remaining difference that this mod removes.
The mod is a Forge mod for Minecraft 1.7.10 – 1.12.2, released in 13 release versions, and its latest Forge file is 1.0.0 for 1.12.2. Because it only changes drop behavior on the server, it is server-side only: players join without installing it and clients need nothing. The code is under the GNU Lesser General Public License v3.0 only, so it is open source, and the source code and issue tracker are publicly linked. It was first published on 2023-04-17 and last updated on 2023-05-14.
Key features
Straight item drops
Items dropped by broken paintings and item frames fall straight down instead of moving horizontally.
Removes random motion
Dropped items no longer receive the random sideways velocity that pushes them into the wall.
Server-side behavior
Only the server needs the mod, so it can be added to an existing server without changes on player machines.
Small footprint
The mod changes one behavior and adds no blocks, items, screens or commands.

Use cases
Who it’s for: Server owners and builders on Minecraft 1.9 or later who want dropped items from paintings and item frames to fall straight down. Because the drift was largely fixed in vanilla 1.9, the mod is mostly unnecessary on later versions, and it is not needed on clients.
How it compares
Flexible Painting is a Forge mod for 1.20.1 that runs on client and server and is open source under the Apache License 2.0, so it changes how paintings are placed rather than dropped items. Fast Item Frames Botania Fix is open source under the MIT License and server-side only for 1.20.1 – 1.20.6, which makes it the closest fit for a server-only setup, though it targets a different version range than this mod.

What the author says
A small mod that fixes the derpyness of the dropped items from Paintings and Item Frames when they are broken. Basically this mod adjusts the position of the dropped items so that they are not inside the wall behind the Painting/Item Frame, and it also removes the horizontal random motion from the dropped item.
