u00a7

by NKID00

u00a7 restores the old section-sign formatting codes for Fabric players who want to type colors and styles directly into chat, signs and other text.

FabricClient-side onlyMozilla Public License 2.0Open source1.17 – 1.19.2

What it does

Players can type the familiar formatting codes by hand, either copying a favorite code from a list or pressing a key combination such as Ctrl plus a number to insert the section symbol. Once the mod is installed, those codes are rendered as colors and styles in text the client receives.

Installation needs only the client, since the environment is client-side only. Signs that carry formatting codes, however, depend on server support, and a multiplayer server must accept packets that contain the codes or the player is disconnected. Servers that ship with built-in formatting code bans will block the codes, and vanilla servers that predate this support do not handle them either. The mod is published for Fabric only, across the 1.17 – 1.19.2 range, and its code is open source under the Mozilla Public License 2.0.

Key features

  1. Hand-typed formatting codes

Codes can be typed as plain text or inserted with a key combination, so no item or command is needed to add a color.

  2. Section sign shortcut

A key combination inserts the section sign quickly, which removes the need to look up the character.

  3. Signs with codes

Formatting codes can also appear on signs, though this depends on the server accepting them.

  4. Configuration screen in progress

A settings screen for the mod is still being developed, so options are not yet adjustable from the game.
