tweak-api

by zhengzhengyiyi

tweak-api is a Fabric library that gives mod developers additional callback events for game options, entity damage, screens and commands.

FabricClient or server, optionalApache License 2.0Open source1.20.1 – 1.21.8

What it does

The library exposes event hooks that other mods can subscribe to. The author lists callbacks for game options being changed, for an entity taking damage, for a screen about to open and for a command about to run. Developers use these hooks to react to those moments without patching the game themselves.

tweak-api needs Fabric API to function, and it also depends on debug-helper, so both must be installed next to it. Either side can run it, and neither needs it. Files target 1.20.1 – 1.21.8 and are released under the Apache License 2.0, which makes the code open source. Source code and the issue tracker are linked publicly.

Key features

  1. Game option callbacks

A callback fires when a game option is changed, letting dependent mods respond to new settings.

  2. Entity damage callback

A callback fires when an entity takes damage, so mods can read or alter damage handling.

  3. Pre-screen and pre-command callbacks

Callbacks run before a screen opens and before a command executes, giving mods a chance to intervene.

  4. Public source repository

The source code is open and the project keeps a public issue tracker for reports and discussion.

Use cases

Hooking into gameplay events

A mod developer can attach to damage or screen events without writing custom injection code.

Who it’s for: Fabric mod developers who need event callbacks for game options, damage, screens or commands. Players who only use finished mods have no direct use for it.

Eva's Scroll Tweaks is a client-side only Fabric mod under the CC0 1.0 Universal license, covering 1.20.1 – 26.1.2, so it is a player-facing tweak rather than a developer library. BlunthornAPI is a Fabric library under the MIT License that covers 1.20.1 – 1.20.6, a narrower range than tweak-api. TslatEffectsLib is a client and server library for Fabric, Forge and NeoForge, covering 1.19 – 1.21.5, and is open source under the MIT License.

Questions

Does tweak-api need Fabric API?

Yes. The author states that the mod requires Fabric API to function properly, so Fabric API must be installed alongside it.

Which dependencies must be installed with tweak-api?

Fabric API and debug-helper are both required. Each must be present for the library to load.

Can tweak-api run on a server without clients installing it?

Yes. Installing it on one side is enough, and the server can run it alone while players need not add it.

Which Minecraft versions have tweak-api files?

Files exist for 1.20.1, 1.20.6, 1.21.5, 1.21.7 and 1.21.8, with the latest Fabric file for 1.21.8 published on 2025-09-08.
