TravellersToasts

by 2Retr0

TravellersToasts shows an informational toast when a player enters a new biome, with checks that limit how often and where the toasts appear.

FabricQuiltClient-side onlyMIT LicenseOpen source1.19.2 – 1.20.4

What it does

Each time a player crosses into a biome, a toast notification describes it. Four checks decide whether the toast appears: a cooldown so the same biome is not announced twice within a configurable period, a location check that skips underground biomes except caves such as lush caves, a check that ignores ocean biomes while the player is swimming or riding a boat, and an inhabited time check that skips chunks already visited past a configurable threshold. Biomes that mirror surface biomes underground follow the same rules.

The mod is client-side only, so only the player's own game needs it, and servers do not run it. It requires Fabric API. Builds exist for Fabric and Quilt across six game versions, 1.19.2 – 1.20.4, under the MIT License, and the source code is open source.

Key features

  1. Biome entry toasts

A toast describes a biome the moment the player enters it, giving a short note about new terrain.

  2. Cooldown between toasts

A biome is not announced again within a configurable cooldown period, so border crossings do not repeat the message.

  3. Underground filtering

Biome toasts are skipped underground, with lush caves and other cave biomes as the exception, so strip mining stays quiet.

  4. Chunk visit threshold

Chunks visited past a configurable inhabited time are no longer announced, leaving toasts for areas a player has not explored.

Use cases

Long travel across the world

Players crossing many biomes on foot or by boat get toasts only when the checks allow, rather than one per border.

Who it’s for: Players who want biome exploration to feel more rewarding in single-player worlds, and players on Fabric or Quilt who use Fabric API.

Questions

Does TravellersToasts need Fabric API?

Yes. Fabric API is a required dependency, so it must be installed next to TravellersToasts on Fabric.

Does the server need TravellersToasts?

No. The mod is client-side only, so only the player's game needs it and a server runs without it.

Can the toast frequency be changed?

Yes. The cooldown period and the inhabited time threshold are both configurable.

Which game versions are supported?

Files cover 1.19.2, 1.19.3, 1.19.4, 1.20, 1.20.1 and 1.20.4, with 1.1.4 for 1.20.4 as the latest Fabric file.

What the author says

· If you were curious, the shaders used this for demo are Complementary Shaders. A longstanding issue I've had with vanilla Minecraft is how unrewarding it can feel to visit new biomes. I hope this small addition could help incentivize/reward traveling—if only just a bit more.
