TimeOutFix

by fr0zert

TimeOutFix lets a server owner raise the login timeout so players on slow connections or heavy modpacks are not disconnected before resources finish loading.

FabricServer-side onlyMIT LicenseOpen source1.21.7

What it does

The mod overwrites the default server-side login timeout, so a server waits longer for a joining client that is still fetching resources. Without it, players with slow links can be kicked with a Timed Out message before they have even reached the world. The author wrote it after a friend with a poor connection kept being disconnected while joining a server.

TimeOutFix is a server-side only mod, so clients do not need it. It is installed on the Fabric server and needs Fabric API. The author notes a config file that is created by hand before restart, and the mod was tested only on a Fabric 1.21.7 server. Builds exist for 1.21.7 alone, the only supported version, and the code is released under the MIT License as open source.

The author describes the code as rough and the project as a short experiment, and it has only one release, 1.1.0, published on 2025-08-12, after a first version on 2025-08-11. It is a small Utility mod with a narrow purpose.

Key features

  1. Longer login timeout

The server waits longer for a joining player before the default login timeout disconnects them.

  2. Fixes slow-transfer kicks

Players still receiving resources are not dropped during join, which matters on modpacks with many assets.

  3. Server-side only

Only the server runs the mod, so players join without installing anything extra.

Use cases

Heavy modpacks

Servers with many mods, including ones that send emotes or other assets on join, take longer to load for each player.

Slow connections

Players on weak internet links can finish receiving data before the server gives up on them.

Who it’s for: Server owners running Fabric 1.21.7 who see players kicked with a Timed Out message during join. Players do not need to install anything, since the mod is server-side only.

How it compares

Full comparison

TimeOutOut is the closest option for the same server-side purpose. It is server-side only, open source under the MIT License and runs on Fabric and Quilt for 1.17.1 – 1.21.10, so it covers more versions and loaders than TimeOutFix. untimeout is a client-side only Fabric mod for 26.1 – 26.3 under the MIT License, so it runs on the player side instead of the server.
