TileFinder

by MaxLeiter

TileFinder lets a player locate block entities such as chests, machines, tanks and cables within a set radius, and follow them with a beam.

FabricForgeNeoForgeClient or server, optionalMIT LicenseOpen source1.12.2 – 26.3

What it does

Opening the finder with O shows a list of nearby block entities, grouped by kind and sorted nearest first. Each entry can be clicked to start tracking that block, which draws a beam toward it, a box around it and a line on the HUD that points the way. Searching by name works for custom chest names, and a filter narrows results to containers that hold items, fluids or energy, to saved places, or to decoration. Saved places can be kept per world with coordinates, copied in one click, and the search radius and beam colours are set in the settings tab.

The finder also reads what the player is holding and what sits under the cursor in the inventory, and it can look up a block from an item hovered in JEI, REI or EMI. Tracking stops when the finder is closed or when the player chooses to stop. Fabric API is required on Fabric, and the mod is published for Fabric, Forge and NeoForge. TileFinder is open source under the MIT License, its source and issue tracker are public, and it is listed for game versions 1.12.2 – 26.3. Server owners can enable a radius filter on the server so it applies to every player, including players without the mod.

Key features

  1. Block entity list

Chests, furnaces, machines, tanks and cables within the radius are listed, grouped by kind and sorted nearest first.

  2. Beam tracking

Clicking an entry draws a beam through walls toward the block, with a box around it and a HUD line pointing the way.

  3. Search and filters

Entries can be searched by name, including a chest's custom name, and filtered to items, fluids, energy, saved places or decoration.

  4. Saved locations

Saved places are kept per world with their coordinates, which can be copied to the clipboard in one click.

  5. Inventory and item lookup

Hovering an item in the inventory or in JEI, REI or EMI lets the finder locate blocks that match it.

Questions

Does TileFinder need Fabric API?

Yes. Fabric API is a required dependency on Fabric. Forge and NeoForge builds do not list it.

Do servers need to install TileFinder?

No. Either side can run it, and neither needs it, so a server can run without the mod. The radius filter set on a server works for players without the mod.

Are Just Enough Items and REI required?

No. JEI and REI are optional dependencies, and the item lookup from their screens only works when one of them is installed.
