Third Person (F5)
by ProjectMichi
With Third Person (F5), the camera follows the player from behind and the F5 key toggles that view on and off, with the distance adjustable in settings.
What it does
The mod changes the third-person camera Minecraft already has. Its distance can be set freely, and an optional setting stops the automatic zoom-in that happens when the camera meets a wall, so the camera can pass through blocks and hold its position. Screenshots and inspections from angles the default view does not allow are among its typical uses.
The mod is a client-side mod, so only the player's client needs it and servers run without it. It is released under a custom license and is not open source. Installation requires Simple GUI API, and Fabric API is needed on Fabric; Mod Menu is optional and lets players change the settings in-game. Builds are published for Fabric, Forge and NeoForge across 16 release versions, 1.21 – 26.2, with snapshot builds included.
Key features
Adjustable camera distance
The distance between the player and the third-person camera can be set to any value in the settings.
Wall collision override
An option disables the automatic zoom-in that normally moves the camera closer when a wall sits behind the player.
Pass-through camera
With the override enabled, the camera ignores blocks and keeps its distance, even inside tight spaces.
F5 toggle
Pressing the F5 key switches between the first-person and third-person views.

Use cases
Screenshots
Players can place the camera at a chosen distance to frame a shot without the wall zoom getting in the way.
Checking builds
Builders can move the camera through narrow corridors and around structures to inspect their work from more angles.
Who it’s for: Players who want to see their character from behind and adjust how close the camera stays, including those who take screenshots or inspect builds in enclosed spaces.
How it compares
Auto Third Person is client-side only, released under the MIT License and published for Fabric, Forge and NeoForge across 1.20.1 – 26.3. Smooth Third Person Camera (STPC) is also client-side only and covers 1.7.10 – 26.3 on the same three loaders, but it is released under All rights reserved. Third Person (F5) instead focuses on the wall-collision override.
