The Fletching Table

by kwahson

The Fletching Table gives the vanilla fletching table a crafting interface for arrows, with three ingredient slots and recipes that players and datapacks can extend.

What it does

Right-clicking a vanilla fletching table opens a crafting screen in place of the usual arrow recipe. Players place ingredients into three input slots, and the result is crafted from them. Sneaking while right-clicking skips the screen and places blocks against the table as normal. The mod is built on NeoForge's native crafting screen and recipe system, rewritten from scratch rather than based on an earlier implementation.

Recipes use the standard ingredient fields: first, second and third slots, with the first slot optional for two-ingredient recipes. An ingredient can name a single item or an item tag, and can carry a count that defaults to 1. Results use the usual item format with an id and a count. Tipped arrows inherit the potion effect of the input potion, including potions added by other mods. Recipes can also be added with a datapack by placing a JSON file, so modpacks can introduce new arrow recipes without code.

Arrow recipes match by tag, so items from other mods that carry the matching tags work as ingredients without extra setup. EMI and JEI can browse the fletching table recipes.

Key features

  1. Arrow crafting screen

Right-clicking the table opens a three-slot interface for arrow recipes, while sneaking keeps block placement working.

  2. Tipped arrow potions

Tipped arrows take the potion effect of the input potion, including effects from modded potions.

  3. Tag-based ingredients

Ingredients can be single items or item tags with optional counts, so tagged items from other mods can be used.

  4. Datapack recipes

New fletching table recipes are added through JSON files in a datapack, with no code required.

  5. Recipe viewer support

Fletching table recipes show up in EMI and JEI for browsing.
