The Staff Awakens

by Dulidanci

The Staff Awakens brings staffs built from Minecraft blocks to Fabric, drawing on Alan Becker's AvM series as a fan-made take.

What it does

Each staff in The Staff Awakens is set up with a core, and the powers that staffs use are drawn from Minecraft blocks. The mod's concept is to keep the staffs canonically accurate to the series while giving a vanilla-style gameplay that fits survival Minecraft. Staffs are arranged in a tech tree and use a Mana point system, so the set of staffs grows as a player progresses through regular play. Staffs act as end-game items that a player reaches during the course of a world, and the powers sometimes vary from the original to better suit the game.

The mod is published for Fabric, with builds for 1.20.4 and 26.1.2. The 1.20.4 line runs on a recent Fabric Loader with Fabric API, while the 26.1.2 line requires newer versions of both. The server and every player need the mod installed. The code is released under the Apache License 2.0, and the source is on GitHub.

Key features

  1. Block-based staffs

Every staff draws its powers from Minecraft blocks, keeping the magic tied to the game's own world.

  2. Staff tech tree

Staffs are arranged in a tech tree, so the player advances through the set in order.

  3. Mana point system

A mana point system governs how a player spends power on staffs during play.

  4. Interchangeable cores

A staff accepts different cores, so one staff can suit several situations and keeping more than one has a purpose.
