Swarm Origins

by RedshiftTeam

Swarm Origins adds sixteen insectoid hivemind origins to Origins on Forge, each with its own strengths and weaknesses, for a Minecraft 1.20.1 world.

ForgeClient and serverzlib License1.20.1

What it does

The origins are themed on ant-like, xenomorph and tyranid hive creatures. Each one trades a set of strengths for crippling weaknesses, such as fire vulnerability, no natural health regeneration from food, permanent severe hunger, and limits on using items, wearing armor or interacting with blocks. A human-like origin stays physically superior in exchange for a simpler balance.

Several origins can climb walls and ceilings, leap higher or move faster, fly with elytra, or detect nearby mobs through walls. Others act as fast specialists that halt or harass enemies, a stealth specialist, a ranged specialist that rains fire while dodging retaliation, a decently mobile tank that heals on its own, or a medic that is mostly unable to fight but keeps allies alive. Seven Tier 2 and two Tier 3 origins evolve from a base origin after time, and each active origin has three active abilities and two passives.

The mod is meant for PvP roleplay on servers, and it makes singleplayer harder on purpose. Evolving takes about 15 minutes, and progress appears while holding Shift. Changing caste resets the current Tier after 10 minutes and downgrades the previous Tier too. Origins Backgrounds and similar variants are not part of this mod. Swarm Origins requires Origins (Forge) and Pehkui, and it runs on client and server, so the server and every player need it. Files are published for Forge only, for Minecraft 1.20.1.

Key features

  1. Sixteen insectoid origins

Sixteen origins draw on a hivemind theme, with a mix of fast harassers, halting specialists and support roles.

  2. Evolving castes

Seven Tier 2 and two Tier 3 origins become available after time, and evolving takes about 15 minutes of progress.

  3. Caste changes with downgrades

Switching caste resets the current Tier after 10 minutes and also downgrades the previous Tier.

  4. Abilities and passives

Each active origin has three active abilities and two passives, and some variants remove a specific weakness.

  5. Weaknesses by design

Fire vulnerability, severe hunger and limits on items and blocks make each origin harder to play in singleplayer.

What the author says

Playing the mod in singleplayer will be less enjoyable/more difficult, as it was designed with PvP or roleplay servers in mind. This mod adds many origins with an insectoid hivemind theme. Think ants, xenomorphs or tyranids. They all have a crippling weakness to fire, inability to regenerate health through food…
