Swapocalypse

by Bingley

Swapocalypse turns a server into a Death Swap minigame, where players are shuffled between positions on a timer until one player is left standing.

What it does

The mod runs a customizable Death Swap game mode. Players are moved to each other's positions at intervals set by a swap timer, and the last player still alive wins. The number of players is not capped, and the settings can be adjusted to tune each round.

Swaps use a Fisher-Yates shuffle, so the order in which players trade places is random and hard to predict. Installation is handled by a repackaged datapack: the datapack has to be loaded into the world, and the mod version runs the same game inside the instance. Both versions are functionally identical.

The server must run it, while players may leave it out. The mod is released under the GNU General Public License v3.0 only and is open source. Files exist for 1.21 – 1.21.4, and the latest build for 1.21.4 is 1.0.1+mod+1.21.x, dated 2025-02-20.

Key features

  1. Death Swap game mode

Players are shuffled between positions at set intervals, and the last player standing wins the round.

  2. Unlimited players

The game mode has no player cap, so large groups can take part in the same round.

  3. Customizable swap timer

The time between swaps can be set, letting a server owner pace the match to its group.

  4. Randomized swaps

A Fisher-Yates shuffle decides the swap order, which keeps each swap unpredictable.
