Surge is an open source Forge mod that targets startup and loading speed in Minecraft Java Edition 1.12.2 and earlier builds.

What it does

Surge changes several internal routines that run while the game starts and while assets are read. It cleans up how Forge checks registry ID prefixes, which shortens the time needed to create and register new content. It also reworks the custom animated model loader, so JSON models load faster.

Two smaller changes target sound and dye handling. Debug code that reports missing sounds and subtitles is turned off, and sheep color blending reads from a predefined table instead of looking up a recipe. A fix also stops long item names from failing when they are renamed on an anvil. A final option prints the total load time to the console, which lets players measure how a change affects startup.

The mod is published for Forge only, for the game versions 1.10.2 and 1.12.2, and it runs on client and server. Surge is released under the GNU Lesser General Public License v2.1 only, and its source code and issue tracker are public.
