Superb Steeds

Superb Steeds changes how horses work, from their stats and training to saddles, feeding and armor, and it needs Fabric API, Forgified Fabric API, Launchpad and StrawberryLib.
What it does
Horses no longer roll fixed stats when bred. Each horse has a strength value from 1 to 5 for speed and jump, with the values listed on a further panel of the horse inventory screen. Riding a horse with a saddle trains these values over time, and a saddle also stops a horse from bucking. Horses can be ridden without a saddle, but that riding does not count toward training.
Feeding works while riding: looking down and using a food item on a horse feeds it, except hay bales, and the food applies its consume effects. Every horse has 15 hearts. Leather horse armor lets horses cross powder snow safely, Skeleton Horses move freely over Soul Sand, and llamas gain inventory slots when led around. The mod runs on the client and on the server, so both need it, and it is published for Fabric, NeoForge and Quilt. Builds cover 1.20.1 – 26.3, and the mod is released under All rights reserved, so its code is not open source. Its source code and issue tracker are public.

Players breeding horses can compare the speed and jump values in the inventory screen before choosing a pair.

Feeding and saddle-free riding let players keep a horse fed and moving on long trips.

Horses Genetic is server-required with optional client support, under a Creative Commons non-commercial license, and it has files for 1.17 – 26.2. Bareback Horse Riding covers 1.19.2 – 26.3 for Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt, is client and server, and is not open source. Horse RPG is a Fabric-only build for 1.21.1 that also runs on client and server.
