Super Secret Settings
by fxys
Super Secret Settings restores a menu screen that Minecraft dropped in an earlier update, with shader toggles and cosmetic options for the client.
What it does
The mod restores the Super Secret Settings button in the Options menu. Players reach the new screen by shift-clicking that button, and from there they can step forward and back through a set of post-processing shaders and turn them off. Shaders are applied in a fixed order, and the list includes effects such as FXAA, Sobel, Phosphor, Wobble, Blur and Pencil Color. A random sound can play when a world is joined, which recalls the behavior of older releases.
The feature set is entirely cosmetic and changes nothing in gameplay. Some of the shaders can be unsuitable for players who are sensitive to flashing colors, and the settings can slow down older computers. The mod runs on Fabric for version 1.20.1 only, and it requires Fabric API to be installed alongside it. Files exist for 1.20 and 1.20.1, and the latest file is 1.1.0 for 1.20.1, published on 2023-09-02. The project is open source under the MIT License, with public source code and an issue tracker.
Key features
Restored settings screen
A new button in the Options menu opens the Super Secret Settings screen, reached by shift-clicking it.
Shader cycling
Players step forward and back through a fixed list of post-processing shaders, and can turn them all off.
Random world sound
A random sound plays when a world is joined, similar to the behavior of older releases.
Cosmetic only
Every option changes how the screen looks and gives no advantage in play.
Compatibility
Latest build for each game version and loader.
Only full game releases are shown. This mod publishes no snapshot builds.
Use cases
Retro visuals
Players who miss the look of older Minecraft versions can apply the shader list to their own client.
Trying effects on a client
Anyone can cycle through the shaders to compare effects before choosing one to keep.
Who it’s for: The mod suits players on Fabric for version 1.20.1 who want older cosmetic options back. Because it is client-side only, it does not need to be installed on a server, and players on a server without it can still join.
How it compares
Super Secret Revival is also client-side only and open source, but it is released under the GNU Lesser General Public License v3.0 only and supports Fabric and Quilt for 1.16 – 1.20.1. Souper Secret Settings is client-side only and open source under the same license, but it targets Fabric for 1.19 – 1.21.11. Cleshca is client-side only for Fabric with a single version, 1.21.8, and is under the Apache License 2.0 without being open source.

What the author says
A lightweight 1.17-1.20 Fabric Mod which adds the Super Secret Settings feature removed in 1.9. It works almost exactly like it did in the older versions.
