Sturdy Trees
by ivangeevo
Sturdy Trees makes trees much tougher to chop, with a breaking mechanic that leaves stumps, bark and sawdust behind when a tree is cut down.
What it does
Trees take longer to break, and the way they fall is changed by the mod's refined breaking mechanic. Felling a tree leaves a stump, and processing logs yields bark, sawdust and other extra materials. Logs and stumps can be set on fire, turning into smouldering variants that generate ash. Stumps can also be converted into crafting tables using chisels, which fits the Tough Environment style of resource gathering.
The mod ports functionality from the Better Wolves mod, originally created by FlowerChild and now maintained by the CE team. Vanilla recipes for planks and sticks are lengthened, and slab and plank crafting restores several wood types. Saplings grow in stages, and they can no longer be bonemealed. Their growth can instantly be made configurable. Textures for small acacia, dark oak and cherry saplings are provided by Dawnraider and the BTW CE team, and the mod works with the BTWG addon.
Sturdy Trees requires BTW: Shared Library and Fabric API. Servers that run it need every player to install it too. Files are published for Fabric only, across five game versions 1.19.2 – 1.21.1, and the latest file is 2.0.1 for 1.21.1. The mod is released under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 license and is not open source.
Key features
Tougher trees
Trees are much sturdier than in vanilla, so cutting them down takes more effort and time.
Refined breaking mechanic
Felling a tree follows a reworked breaking mechanic, with stumps left where trunks stood.
Bark and sawdust
Processing logs produces bark, sawdust and other extra materials for crafting.
Staged saplings
Saplings grow through stages, and bonemeal no longer speeds them up. Growth timing can be configured.
