Step Crafter
by Ultramega
Step Crafter is a Fabric and NeoForge storage mod that automates autocrafting on a Refined Storage network, keeping stocked items above a set minimum.
What it does
Step Crafter adds a Step Crafter block and a Step Requester block that handle recursive crafting, so a network can produce intermediate items as well as final products. Each Step Crafter pattern takes a minimum and a maximum amount, set with Shift and click. When the stored amount of an output drops below the minimum, crafting starts and continues in batches until the maximum is restored.
The Step Requester works from the other direction: a player selects a resource to maintain, then sets its limits and batch size in the requester's settings. When the available amount falls below the minimum, the requester asks the autocrafters for batches until the maximum is reached. A Step Crafter Manager block gathers these tasks in one place, and a Step Crafter Grid shows the autocrafting work in progress.
The mod requires Fabric API on Fabric and Refined Storage on both loaders. It runs on the client and the server, so both sides need it, and it is released under the MIT License as open source. Files target 26.1.2 for Fabric and NeoForge, with a 1.21.1 build also published.
Key features
Recursive crafting
Step Crafter handles chains of crafts, producing the components an item needs before the item itself.
Minimum and maximum stock
Each pattern keeps a stored amount between two limits, starting crafts when stock runs low.
Batch requests
The Step Requester asks autocrafters for batches of a chosen resource until its maximum is reached.
Redstone start
A redstone pulse can start the crafting tasks, so an existing machine or timer can trigger them.
Compatibility

Use cases
Who it’s for: Refined Storage players who want automatic crafting of intermediate components, and server owners who run shared storage networks with stocked resources.
How it compares
AE2: Automatic Requester is NeoForge only, for 1.21.1, under the GNU General Public License v3.0 or later, and it is open source. ME Requester covers Fabric, Forge and NeoForge for 1.18.2 – 26.1.2 under the GNU Lesser General Public License v3.0 only, and is open source. Refined Storage - JEI Integration is MIT licensed, open source and available on Fabric and NeoForge for 1.21.1 – 26.1.2, but it adds an integration view rather than an automatic requester.
