Steady Sight

by KURONAMI

Steady Sight reduces abrupt first-person camera motion, using an edge vignette and smoother steps on one-block stairs and minecart slopes.

What it does

Steady Sight bundles several independently controlled changes aimed at people who feel nausea or unease during first-person play. Camera rotation inertia can be adjusted as well, and the mod can also change render distance and frame pacing.

An edge vignette keeps the screen edges dimmed to give a fixed visual frame, and it can be set to Off, Subtle, Standard or Strong. Settings can be applied once through a one-time comfort preset, or tuned by hand. Treatment results vary from person to person, so each change can be tried on its own. The mod requires Fabric API and is published for Fabric, Forge and NeoForge, covering 1.20.1 – 26.2 across 5 release versions. It runs on the client only, so servers need no installation, and it is released under All rights reserved, not as open source.

Key features

  1. Edge vignette

A dimmed frame along the screen edges, with Off, Subtle, Standard and Strong strengths.

  2. Smoother vertical camera

Steps and minecart slope transitions are eased, without moving the player or altering collision.

  3. Independent toggles

Vanilla and other-mod settings change separately, so each effect can be turned off on its own.

  4. Config screen and file

The NeoForge build provides a config screen with tooltips in nine languages, while Forge uses a config file without one.

Questions

Does Steady Sight need Fabric API?

Yes. Fabric API is required, and the Fabric build of the mod depends on it.

Which loader should be chosen for Steady Sight?

Fabric, Forge and NeoForge are all published. The NeoForge build includes a config screen, while Forge provides the same config file without one, and Fabric uses default settings.

Does Steady Sight need to be installed on the server?

No. It is installed on the player's side alone, so servers need nothing.
