StaticVeil

by MythicalBeam

StaticVeil is a Fabric horror mod for Minecraft 1.21.11 that builds dread the longer a player keeps playing.

FabricClient and serverMIT License1.21.11

What it does

A background system follows how long the player has been online and introduces unsettling changes bit by bit. As the dread level rises the experience grows more intense, and at its peak the game starts acting against the player directly. Corridors can look slightly different from a minute ago, sounds arrive without a visible source, and torches snuff themselves out as a wave closes in. Things standing at the edge of the dark never come closer while the player watches them, and the screen distorts when the veil thins.

The mod pulls the player into custom liminal dimensions, each with its own atmosphere. The Backrooms bring fluorescent halls, carpet and a constant hum, the Torch Maze offers endless dark corridors, and the Pale Depths hold a frozen white space where something stands far away and never gets nearer. The Cave System goes deeper, with a ceiling that shifts as the player moves, and a bright yellow party dimension plays cheerful music that keeps going too long. Finding a Veil Anchor is the way out of a dimension.

StaticVeil is published for Fabric only, for Minecraft 1.21.11, under the MIT License. It is not open source. Every player and the server need a copy of the mod.

Key features

  1. Escalating dread

A background system tracks playtime and steps up the horror, so the same world feels different after hours of play.

  2. Liminal dimensions

Several custom dimensions, including the Backrooms, Torch Maze, Pale Depths and Cave System, each have their own atmosphere.

  3. Entities that only move when unseen

Figures at the edge of the dark stay put while the player looks at them, and only appear when the player is looking away.

  4. Torches and sound

Torches can snuff out in a wave, and sounds play without a source, adding to the unease.

  5. Veil Anchor exit

Finding a Veil Anchor is how the player leaves a custom dimension.

What the author says

Static Veil is a psychological horror mod that gets worse the longer you play. There's no jump scares, no boss fights — just a slow build of something being wrong. The mod runs a dread system in the background. It tracks your playtime and starts introducing things gradually. Sounds without a source. Corridors that…
