SortCraft
by Nayruden
SortCraft is a Storage mod that sorts items from a chest into other chests by the text on signs, without redstone.
What it does
Chests are linked by placing a sign on each one. An input chest holds the items to be sorted, and every other chest carries a sign whose lines name the category it should receive. A player right-clicks the input chest and its items move to the matching chests at once, so no hopper or redstone circuit is needed to set the sorting up.
Categories are defined in simple YAML files on the server, and sign text must match a category name exactly. Server owners who prefer not to edit files by hand can build their categories visually with the companion webapp CategoryCraft. Because the mod works from item data, it can also sort modded items loaded from mod jar files.
SortCraft is server-side only: the server needs it, and players join without installing anything. It is published for Fabric and NeoForge across 15 release versions, 1.21 – 26.3, and the code is open source under the MIT License. A quickstart video and a concise quick reference are linked from the project, with a full example for server setup.
Key features
Redstone-free sorting
Items move from an input chest to labeled chests on a right-click, with no hoppers or redstone wiring.
Sign-based categories
Each target chest is labeled with a sign whose text matches a category name, such as ores or tools.
YAML category configuration
Categories are written in plain YAML files, so server owners can keep their sorting rules in version control.
Visual category builder
The companion CategoryCraft webapp lets owners build and organize categories without editing the files directly.
Modded item support
Items from loaded mod jar files can be sorted into categories, not only vanilla items.

How it compares
Adoner's Tweaks is a Fabric and NeoForge mod with the client and server environment and no open source license, published for 1.21.11 – 26.3. ShulkerSorter also runs on both sides and is open source under the MIT License, covering 1.21 – 26.3. Inventory Sorting is open source under the MIT License for 1.19 – 26.3, but the server requires it while client installation stays optional, which differs from SortCraft's server-only setup.
